Would you like to be old friends?

Our language is different now, shallower—  
Filled with silent *I miss you*s and *Do you remember when*s;  
A glance that was once a knock on your front door,  
a poor man’s *Let me love you*.

Now, a timid smile across the room,  
the swift blink of trepidation.  
Skin where your fingers used to touch  
are now only memories in goosebumps.

Do you remember me the way I remember you?  
If you pass me by, look at me like you know me.

And yet, and yet—  
Holes in the film reel, a soundtrack of silence.
